I don't typically write reviews but I felt compelled on this item to share my thoughts on the headphones. I have had a myriad of headphones over the years primarily for my iTouch or more recently my iPod nano. The last few pairs I have owned in order were the Klipsch Image S4's which I liked but fell apart after a year. They literally broke at the back of the ear piece. The Nixon mm wire in ear headphones which I too liked had some good overall sound with good bass but the left ear piece stopped working after 8-10 months. Lastly the a-Jays T00074 in ears. They lasted and I still have them but they are a pain to wear in the gym especially doing cardio with the heavy cord.

Now back to the review. I will add that several reviewers have this correct that these headphones need to be broken in for optimal sound. Also they need to fitted and inserted correctly to get the right amount of bass/ sound. I have decided to stick with the heavy bass backs as I love to hear heavy bass with my metal and rock. Now that I have about 40+ hours of listening in on them I can say they fit the bill and have a very good overall well rounded sound quality that would typically be found in a much more expensive headphone. I love the lighter weight cable and the fact I can customize the sound. These are a great pair of headphones for under $100 let alone under $50. Now the real test will be can they last a year or more of constant gym use and packing to travel on a plane? We'll see...

When I ordered the SP51 Earbuds, I was expecting a lot. I have had a decent amount of experience in the headphone market and I have always had a problem stemming from the characteristic lack of bass commonplace in most in-ear headphones. Before I found the SP51's, the only headphone that satisfied my need was the Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 5 EB. While these were amazing, their durability was not. Soon enough, the cord failed me and I was forced to return them for a refund (they have been discontinued).

From that point on, I have been in and out of various headphones. I had accepted the notion that I would never return to the wondrous level of the Ultimate Ears. How wrong was I? The Meelectronics SP51 have been a godsend. The bass control is fantastic with everything ranging from a natural level of bass to a very low-end heavy sound. Regardless, the sound is always crisp and perfect quality. For perspective, I have even received complements from untrained ears. the refined sound is unbelievable and you will not be disappointed.

These headphones are great for the price. I was listening to some music in a busy high school gym (waiting for my son) and did not hear ambient background noise. Great buy!
